When Jabu first walked into our home and saw my vast collection of baskets she said “Wow Jess you sure do love grass”.
It is this mixture of humor, creativity and sheer determination that makes Jabu the strong and driven woman that she is.

Who makes up your family?
My three children and my two grandchildren are who I consider my family.

Tell us about you brand?
My products are handmade by myself using natural materials.
Tell us about the inspiration behind your brand?
My aim is to show and shine a light on handmade South African products and this has been influenced and inspired by my childhood. Growing up I was often surrounded by women doing and making beautiful works with their hands using organic materials such as grass. They would effortlessly turn something as plain and common as grass into a decorative piece of art. Also, my grandmother raised me and being the hard working and busy woman that she was often forced me to partake in this product making which I actually ended up loving and enjoying. The main reason for that was because it meant more time with my grandmother and not having to share her with my other siblings and cousins.
The biggest lesson you have learnt being an entrepreneur?
It is all about balance and prioritising.
Why should one support local?
It embraces the talents given to the people around you. The country’s great diversity is portrayed through the production of local products.
What inspires you to get up each morning?
My children. I ask myself if I don’t wake up and work, what will they eat and how will they go to school. I
